A Global Stand

The United Nations is having what is being called “one of the most important global conferences of our time” in Copenhagen to discuss Global warming. The purpose of the conference is to find a solution that will reduce the negative effects of human use of carbon dioxide.
The UK has published many statements of their part in reducing their use of carbon gasses. The UK has also stated a proposal of what they believe should be the goal of all present in the conference. Some of those goals are; A global recognition to reduce carbon emissions to 50% below 1990 levels by 2050, Global temperature rise limited to 2 Degrees above pre-industrial levels, Developed country reduction targets that add up to least 25% below 1990 levels by 2020, Developing country actions that add up to at least 15% below business as usual for 2020.
I believe that this conference is very important and is extremely necessary. The conference is a global attempt to work together to come up with a solution to a global problem. Since global warming is a global issue it obviously needs global attention to be solved. The conference is extremely necessary as scientist have shown that global warming is getting worse and can have extreme negative effects that can lead to the end of mankind.

Obama's New Orleans visit

President Barack Obama will visit New Orleans on Thursday for the first time in office. President Obama will hold town meetings to hear residents concerns and will also visit a charter school. Although its Obama’s first time visiting New Orleans after hurricane Katrina while being in office he has been there about five times after Katrina struck. Obama is taking time and focus off major national political issues to visit New Orleans and some local Republicans believe that Obama’s visit is too short and that in order for him to fully understand the struggles and what is needed in New Orleans his stay must be longer. Apparently those Republicans believe their leader four years ago, George W. Bush, had a greater concern about New Orleans than President Obama.

$250 bonus

Barack Obama has asked congress for approval to give more than 50 million senior citizens a 250 dollar payment to make up for not increasing their social security check next year. Next year will be the first year that social security does not increase its payments to those receiving social security checks since 1975. I believe that it is not much of a inconvenient that the payments for those who receive social security will not increase because cost of living will not increase. Since the reason why payments are increased are because cost of living goes up and cost of living will not go up then there’s no reason to increase the social security payments. The 250 dollars are just a bonus which will help the economy because money is given to the people to spent which will furthermore distribute money.

Redefining Hate Crimes?

Congress is trying to expand the categorize that define a hate crime by adding attacks based on sexual orientation. Congress will add to the changes that were made after Martin Luther King J.R.’s assassination in 1968 which included crimes carried out because of race, color, religion, or national origin. The expansion will include crimes carried out because of gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. The bill was thought to be proposed during Bush administration but faced a veto threat by the president but now has support during Obama’s administration. Many that oppose the bill argue that pastors that give sermons against gays could be persecuted as violence against gays but supporters of the bill explain that charges could only be made if “bodily injury” is involved. I believe that this bill can be easily interpreted to the benefit of people and will create problems between church and state. Since church and state should be separate I believe that the bill is playing with the line between church and state. The bill that is being proposed by congress is getting involved with church because the church has defined believes about sexual orientation and if the bill is interpreted to the benefit of some people, churches might be prohibited by law to express their believe concerning sexual orientation.

Joe Wilson's Passion

During President Barack Obama’s speech to Congress a representative from North Carolina, Joe Wilson, shouted "You lie!" to Barack Obama. President Barack Obama was explaining to Congress that the health insurance would not cover illegal aliens when Joe Wilson interrupted the speech accusing President Obama of being a liar. Joe Wilson quickly apologized to President Obama and Obama quickly accepted the apology. Joe Wilson’s action during President Obama’s speech was greatly disrespectful and unnecessary because it wasn’t the proper way and time to express his belief about the issue of health insurance. Joe Wilson explained that he made the mistake of allowing his emotions to get the best of him which is something natural that all humans experience when they feel greatly passionate about certain things. He made the mistake and realized he did and apologized promptly which is a good way in handling the situation. The mistake Joe Wilson made should serve as an example of how important the issue of national health care is and how passionate American politics are when it comes to greatly changing the Nations government.

Mexican American Border War

Napolitano plans to take a strong fight against drug, weapons, and human smuggling into the United States. Napolitano’s plan has begun with the increased number of agents working at the border and also with more routine checks of vehicles. A key point that will make Napolitano’s plan successful is that the Mexican government has agreed to help fight against the illegal smugglings. It’s greatly important that the Mexican government has agreed to support the United States in the attempt to secure the border because with both governments seeking illegal activity on each other’s side of the border will make it twice as difficult for any illegal smuggling to occur. It’s very important for the United States to protect the border against drug and weapon smuggling because the illegal drugs and weapons create violence in the United States. Although Napolitano’s plan will use some tax money to increase border protection it will be worth the spent because it will eventually decrease drug and gun violence in the states bordering Mexico.

Obamas speech

Obamas speech had nothing to do with politics and had no hidden message. His speech was an attempt to notify the youth of the importance of education.
